Takashi Agera     It's a beautiful summer day, and that means Dream Kingdom is doing well. The theme park that sits in Yumegahara draws both tourists and locals - but today it's just busy as opposed to 'so crowded everything is an eternal line'. In that slew of people are many couples, and one of those couples consists of a pair with silver and (blonde) gold hair, a tall boy and an elegant girl. Takashi Agera and Mami Tomoe, out on a date together.

As usual, Takashi is talking, and Mami is... maybe listening. "... so I'm pretty sure that the girls are acting funny because of something of Beryl's that got into them." he says, annoyance on his face. "Really, how am I supposed to get usable data when people change the experiment without telling me? It's ridiculous."
Mami Tomoe     Mami isn't really listening. Though, this time it is not because she's staring at Takashi's handsome visage. It's because there's just so much going on at Dream Kingdom her attention is pulled every which way. She is ''trying'' to listen, though. She's a good girlfriend, and a good subordinate! It's just hard.

Mami thinks back to the last time ''she'' saw Director Beryl, and she just shakes her head. "I don't think she cares about whether or not your data is usable, Takashi-kun," she says. Then she thinks about some of the words she'd heard but not processed. She turns her head to look right up at him, "Which girls are acting funny how?"
Takashi Agera     "The DG Girls. You know, the five knockoff magical girls Obsidian made." He sighs. "And no, you're right. That woman only cares about her own power and trying to shack up with my brother." He says, his face radiating distaste. "At least she doesn't ''know'' he's my brother." he notes, shrugging.

It was easier to talk about things here, away from Obsidian. In theory a lot of people could hear them, but nobody who would make functional use out of any of the information. What little could be heard outside of their bubble, in the din of the crowd.

"It's not really your problem, I'm just venting." he admits. "Something about being around you makes me feel more comfortable to do so - and like I should let it out so I don't stew on it." he says.

He pauses, and there's a bit of awkward silence as they walk. "... Baked any good pies lately?" he asks. He's gotta talk about something, he's trying not to talk about work, and the weather is right out.
Mami Tomoe     Mami looks at him and frowns then she nods her emphatic agreement. "That's right. You should ''not'' stew on it," she says. She holds up the hand she's holding between them and shakes it just a little. "We're a team, Takashi-kun. I know you want to shield us, but I'm not a little girl like the others. I'm your partner." Then she smiles and lifts her chin, shaking her hair drills as she wiggles just a little. She's proud she's his girlfriend. She loves him. "You should really make more use of me."

He doesn't have anything to say right away, and then? Then he asks about baking. She laughs. "All my pies are good, Takashi-kun. I've been into tarts and sheet-cakes lately, though. I like a good sheet cake because you can just bake it at the beginning of the week and have dessert every night, and enough to share too."
Takashi Agera     Takashi shakes his head. "I'm not shielding you. I'm just trying not to waste your energy. Glimmer has a big giant rock she can recharge at. Norie and I can drain energy to refresh. Catra is... well... Catra. Fate - I don't involve her either because she's already burning herself down to ashes for her Mother. But you... look, you have a harder time replenishing your energy and none of the rest of us lose our minds and turn into a big spooky reality warping eldritch monster when we run dry." he says.

And then he reaches out and grabs her hand. "I know you're ''elegant'', not ''delicate'' and I understand there's a difference. But you're also very special to me, very precious to me, and you're... well, you're the Big Guns, I don't like involving you unless I need to, unless it's critical, or unless it benefits you. And it's because I'm trying to protect you, yes. But it's not the same way I try to protect the others."

"I don't think you could ever really have enough grief seeds for me to be okay with spending them frivolously." he adds, slowly slipping his hand from hers. "It's not a matter of not wanting your help."

"...plus I'm not risking my everlasting delicious desert factory for Beryl's desires."
Mami Tomoe     The corners of the blonde's mouth turn down and then she purses them just a little. She does not approve of this line of reasoning. He ''says'' she's his ''big guns'', but sometimes it feels like she's his ''faulty guns'' and he wants to keep her out of the field. But she can't let any of that insecurity show.

"Delegation is the key to effective leadership, Takashi-kun," she says, with that lecturing tone she's oh so good at doing when she's talking about things she's read but definitely is also terrible at. She did read that in a book. She reaches for his hand again, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I've been managing my grief seeds for a long time now. I know my limits, and I'll tell you if you ever push me close to them. You're going to burn yourself out if you try to micromanage all of us. We're a team for a reason."
Takashi Agera     "Mmh." Takashi grunts as they get in line for the Dream Kingdom's signature ferris wheel. Of course they're going on it together. How could they NOT. But he's also mentally 'chewing' on what she said, trying to thread the needle between her telling him she'll be okay and him not sounding like he doesn't trust the girl to know her own limits. Which is hard, for someone who doesn't trust anyone to know anything as well as he does (even things about themselves).

"Well... I'm not going to say you weren't super-helpful getting the Scroll of Ka." he says, after a delay. "And actually... there's something similar that might be coming up. If you really feel like you're not doing enough I can bring you along on it." he says, as they get into the seat. Now out of the crowd he lets Axion produce a sort of holographic image between them.

"So... I keep tabs on a lot of things, and then the computers look for patterns. And it's all very boring and not at all edible, but the long and short of it is... I think... someone is moving magical artifacts in to Tokyo. Something that I think in retrospect might have been that came off a shipping container on a boat and made its way straight to the Academy. After that I lost track of it, but I've got reason to believe it's incomplete. Whatever it is. The signature is really low and fading, and I think it's part of something. So I have to assume that more parts of something are going to come in, and if they're ending up with the Academy - not the students, but the school itself - that's interesting, and when things are interesting, I prefer that they're in our hands." he says.

"So... I'm thinking the next time I get a reading similar to this, I'm gonna show up and divert the item so I can study whatever it is." he explains, as the holoscreen shows data that is mostly not helpful to Mami - digital representations of magical wavelengths and such - but it does seem to be helping Takashi focus his thoughts. "So since we did so well working together for the scroll of Ka, this could be something worth bringing you in on. If you want."
Mami Tomoe     He brought a visual aide this time. That was very clever. Mami might not be able to understand much of it, but it does capture her attention and distracts her from watching his mouth move while he talks. Consequently, she actually gets most of that. "The ''Academy''? That's interesting," she echoes in one of the spaces where he pauses to breathe. At least that shows how much she was paying attention. She noticed when he paused to breathe.

She dislikes that he's still framing it as bringing her in on something because it's important enough, but she lets it slide, because she also read that you shouldn't punish the behavior you want to see, and she wants to get out in the field more. So she has to make sure to show the proper amount of enthusiasm.

Her eyes brighten and she claps, and then she launches across the gondola at Takashi, throwing her arms around his neck and sitting on his lap. It really does unbalance the gondola, and it starts to swing. "I can't wait!"
Takashi Agera     It's not often he stops. Takashi is, if nothing else, an excellent box of rants and monologuing. "Yeah, well, the Academy's got something going on for sure, otherwise there wouldn't be so many of us there. So it's not entirely surpri-" and he's cut off by Sudden Mami.

The gondola swings back and forth, and for a moment he grips her tighter, protectively, before relaxing because both of them really shouldn't have any problems if they were to fall out, and also seatbelts.

"I mean, if this is how you're going to react I can probably bring you on more things... I do like making you happy." he admits. And he doesn't know how much she's doing this for exactly that reaction. But on some level the two of them are, always, watching each other and 'performing' in a sense, to get what they want.

"I will absolutely give you a call. But I know sometimes Labyrnths interfere with the signal so if you don't respond I may call someone else, too." he says. "I just don't want you to feel like I'm... leaving you out, I guess?" he asks, rubbing the back of his neck.

"You're a ''very'' important part of this team. And very important to me for other reasons too."
Mami Tomoe     Mami sits astride Takashi's lap with her knees to either side of his hips, her weight resting on his knees and her arms thrown around his neck. When he brushes his own hand back there it tickles across the back of hers and she giggles, wiggling just a little. "Good," she says with a nod. "Because if you don't, I'll just have to go out and do things by myself."

Is that better? No that's worse. That's worse than if she's doing things ''with'' Riventon. He can't save her from herself if he's not there. She wrinkles her nose and smiles, bobbling her head and then leans in to kiss Takashi. That's what you're supposed to do on the ferris wheel, after all.

"You're very important to me too. I love you, Takashi."
Takashi Agera     He smiles. "Well, I didn't give you ''permission'' to do that, aside from witches. You can't go getting yourself in trouble without me. That's far less fun for everyone." he says, grinning impishly.

He looks up at her and for a moment he's not thinking two steps ahead or trying to figure out the best way to accomplish something or how to manipulate her or anyone else or the situation. For a little bit, he's just a boy with a pretty girl in his arms, atop a ferris wheel.

So when she kisses him, at the top of the ferris wheel, for a moment everything's normal. For a moment he's not trying to save the world, or control it (or really, both) - he's just in the moment.

Then she says she loves him. That's obviously what this is, what's got his heart aflutter, what's got him feeling so... damned happy. "Yeah... but who wouldn't love me?" he says, with a grin, and just a little pause for the joke. "And... I love you too, of course."
Mami Tomoe     Mami resists the urge to say something snarky in response to his joke. This moment was just too perfect to ruin it with something as mean-spirited as pointing out that the only girls who didn't hate him worked for him, and several of ''them'' were twelve or thirteen. She knew she had the market for Takashi's affection cornered because she knew he was a jerk, and she kinda loved him because of it. He wasn't a jerk to her.

Doing her best to keep all those thoughts off her face, Mami just laughs and smiles. "Don't go getting any ideas, Takashi-kun," she says before kissing him again. "It doesn't matter who else might love you. ''I'm'' your girlfriend."
Takashi Agera     Takashi laughs. "Don't worry about that, I've been shot by you enough for one lifetime." he says, and reaches out and taps her nose. Takashi actually wasn't a jerk to a few people, but the number of people he was a jerk to surely was a much greater number. "I'm too smart to make that mistake."

"Besides, you'd cry, and I never want to see you cry because of anything I've done." he says, and here... there's not a joke, or a trick, or a witty comment. That's just something he's saying, one-hundred-percent honestly. Even if sometimes he might doubt her, might be suspicious of her thanks to the Dark Energy... he never would want to be responsible for that.
Mami Tomoe     Mami leans forward, not to kiss Takashi, but to hug him. She scoots down on his lap just a little, and rests her head on his shoulder. She nuzzles her nose into his neck and places a soft kiss there. For an evil mad scientist, he was a pretty good boyfriend. At least she thought so. She was a teenager, though. What did she know? "I'm glad to hear that you've got good priorities, Takashi-kun," she cooed. She fully intended to stay poured over him like that until they reached the bottom of the ferris wheel again.
Takashi Agera     Takashi put an arm around her. "I could hardly call myself a genius if I missed out on what was most important." He kept a lid on whether that was Mami's happiness or his body not being full of very pretty bullets. Both, really, were very high priorities.

But for the moment he was happy. For the moment, he just relaxed, and let himself be happy. He didn't do that enough. He should take Mami more places. Both the nice ones, and the ones she asked for.
