| Synopsis: | During a heat wave, Glimmer decides to take Fuku's advice and use one of Seira's soul fragments to corrupt an ice fairy... it has... some major effects. Oops. Requiring Yellow Pearl Voice, Amy, Catra, Yukihime and Hope Blossom to put a stop to the frozen terror before the whole city gets put on ice! |
| Cast of Characters: | Glimmer Brightmoon, Madoka Kaname, Miho Inada, Coco Kiumi, Catra, Amanda Faust |
- Glimmer Brightmoon has posed:
Glimmer Brightmoon went over the sequence of events that had led to this...
A heatwave hit Tokyo and Glimmer had been, frankly, exhausted. Collapsed on her Moonstone. Her fan had died and she'd tried to pick up a new one, but the store was out and they were out... And then, as she'd been trying to come up with a solution, one of her friends had flown into her 'office'.
The poor bird looked worse off than her. Poor thing. But, to her surprise, Fuku had a solution. And together, they'd come up with a plan... a plan that had many, many benefits. Get one of the soul pieces from Michel and use it to dark energy an ice fairy from the Mermaid Kingdom! Then, poof! Freeze things! Beat the heat, maybe capture a mermaid princess, get some energy! Win win win, right? Except, for Glimmer, it had EXTRA benefits. It'd get some energy so maybe Riventon would STOP PRETENDING SHE DIDN'T EXIST AND ACTING LIKE SHE HAD LEFT HIS DEPARTMENT AND JOKING ABOUT HOW HE COULD 'Still hear her voice' WHEN SHE WENT OUT TO LUNCH, and when they purified it it would get the little mermaids another one of their precious little soul things and maybe get them off her back and stop guilt tripping her so much about it. Because she DIDN'T feel bad about it. She DIDN'T. Not at ALL.
... That and like, it was REALLY hot.
And of course, for a bit it had worked well. Grabbing the fairy? Easy. A lil pink haired girl with twin tails... who had then become a great pink and blue manta ray demon, flying over the city, turning the city to ice under it! And it WAS cooler, Glimmer had to give it that...
And Glimmer WAS gathering dark energy, that was great! But, ummmm...
This was... quickly... getting... A bit... "Uhhhh... isn't... this a bit... excessive?" she asked Fuku, glancing over towards the bird.
... Only to realize... the bird was gone. Wait. When did she leave?
(The answer? Quite a while ago.)
She then glanced towards the city... Snow was piling up and people who had been, only moments ago roasting... were now quickly trying to retreat inside where it was warmer as the frigid temperatures washed over everything in sight.
Well... someone was bound to come and stop her soon... right? She put her palms together and red light washed over her, the dark energy shifting her uniform into her red and black horde variant. Before she dusk ported up onto a nearby building, looking down... And a haunting melody began to follow in the wake of the icy fairy...
Come on out, mermaid, can't call you out much harder than this.
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
A flying manta ray thing freezing the four wards area is a bit difficult to miss for anyone on this side of the Veil. Sadly, Brai was playing a game on her phone and so she didn't notice anything going wrong until she noticed that it was cold.
... in the middle of Summer.
Looking around, she notices the wave of ice forming around her. Looking up, she sees the manta ray demon. Looking back at her phone, she panics and starts texting the other Minidoka Chara and Madoka in a hurry.
A short while later, Hope Blossom, merged with Lydian, is hopping across rooftops, making her way towards a very chilly Brai who could really use a warm drink and a blanket. Cupping the longhaired tactical minidoka in her hands, Hope holds her close to let her get a bit warmer. Her pink eyes look up at the manta ray demon, and she hears a strange tune playing nearby.
"So that's the problem?" asks Blossom.
"Y-y-y-yeah... th-th-that..." said a shivering Brai.
- Miho Inada has posed:
Miho was at the beach, sunbathing a little bit. She was enjoying her new ife blue bikini she bought. That was until she got a real bad headache. It causes her to hiss before she throws on a pair of cargo shorts, and hides behind a building. The ife mahou breathes out a small breath of fog that turns to snowflakes as she henshins into Yukihime. Yukihime focuses a little bit on where the dark energy is coming from.
Yukihime takes a deep breath, and her body starts to freeze. After a few seconds it shatters into snowflakes that seem to float in the air. Its not too much longer before the snow flakes seem to join together, and a shadow comes out of the snow flakes. Its Yukihime, who looks up at the manta ray. "O...kay. Not the strangest thing.", she says, unaffected by the temperture drop. She's already pretty much frozen. This is normal for her.
The Ice mahou takes a moment, and lifts up her hand, palm up. She blows on it, sending snow out. The snow comes together to make a few snow bunnies, and a couple of birds. Simple instructions, birds fly above the Manta, and watch it. A few bunnies look for snacks, or other Mahou. And a bunny to look for other sources of dark energy. For now, Yukihime focuses on the Manta ray.
She holds her left hand out, and calls 3 beads out to make wolves. After calling them, she focuses her attention on making her ice bow. Yukihime isn't sure if her wolves can go that high, so...bow and arrow time.
- Coco Kiumi has posed:
As a mermaid of a tropical ocean, Coco is actually quite accustomed to intense heat. Fact is, she actually relishes summer: lounging in a deck chair, sunglasses perched on her nose, a drink on the table next to her, and the sun kissing her skin while she works on a good tan.
And when it isn't mealtime, the back of Pearl Pier offers the perfect reprieve, with a luscious garden opening on a direct view of the beach and then the soft sea breeze and the quiet lullaby of the waves to ease her toward sleep.
This is what dreams are made of.
What awaits her is however a rather rude from those dreams, brought on by a sudden wind announcing a rather nasty drop in temperature. Opening her eyes, Coco shoots upright, with her teeth chattering and skin erupting in goosebumps with the sudden grip of a cold zephyr.
"Snow?", she murmurs bewildered, watching a snowflake fall onto her open palm, and then a cruel gust cuts through the rapidly disappearing heat again.
Noises of sandals hit the ground with haste, and the blonde mermaid breaks into the Pearl Pier rubbing her chilling arms, sighing with relief upon the welcome sight of Nikora and Hippo.
To her surprise, the two of them were already huddled up chatting over Hippo's radar. "Have you seen outside?", Coco grits her teeth, peering over the penguin. "Yes, that's what Hippo and I just got to discussing", the dark pink mermaid replies, gesturing towards the equipment.
"My radar has caught onto a strong dark energy signal in the middle of the city, it's rapidly spreading. If we don't act quick, all of Tokyo might get reduced to a frozen popsicle!", the penguin shakes its flippers in a hurry.
"Ok, I will deal with whatever this is!", Coco closes her hand into a fist, and with a yellow blur, she rushes out of the hotel, jumping and hopping where Hippo has pointed her towards.
"Blossom!", Coco greets Madoka. "You have already found the youma responsible", the yellow idol glances at the manta ray. There was something odd about it... "Are you all ok?"
- Catra has posed:
This has been a difficult time for Catra. Not just becaues of broken knees -- that actually wasn't that bad, in the long run, even though it really really sucked right in the moment. Her whole life feels up in the air. She's out of Obsidian. She has to do something about Joker, and soon. She has feelings she cannot understand or explain, largely because they aren't anger or fear like she's used to, and while she's comfortable with being treated the way the sparkles usually treat people, their standards for her behaviour seem to have abruptly risen, for one thing. And for another she has feelings she doesn't understand towards... people. Like Hinoiri. Like Adora.
This is all so weird.
With the solid bedrock foundation of understanding how things work pulled out from under her, she turns to one thing that is familiar: Riding her motorcycle. (This planet officially sucks, but motorcycles are pretty cool and Etheria doesn't have them, so she'll give these humans a pass and if she ever does get back to Etheria, she's enlisting Entrapta to make these things and starting a wasteland motorcycle gang in the Crimson Wastes. For real.)
The other benefit to a motorcyle being, of course, she can ride without disguise, 'casue anyone who sees her will just assume she's cosplaying. So that's nice.
What isn't nice is surprise snow.
Catra abruptly finds herself skidding, and turns the motorcycle sideways, leaning back and leaving twin lines of rubber as she skids to a halt -- and mentally congratulates her on a manouver that, surely, nobody lacking cat reflexes would ever pull off. She takes a moment to breath as she dismounts, and finds herself... actually shivering.
"What on Etheria...?" she asks, tapping into the Spirit Ember to warm herself. (That's... rather convenient actually.) "Where the hell'd all that come from?!"
- Amanda Faust has posed:
This heatwave sucks. Even the dorm's AC is struggling, and Amy's fan died. She went to pick up a new one and what luck, the store had just one left!
Ironically, she didn't end up using it yet because it ended up being an excellent afternoon for a beach trip! She's dressed in her rash guard and swim shorts but isn't actually swimming, sitting under a shady umbrella and reading, enjoying the cool breeze.
It gets a bit cooler and she stands and faces the breeze, smiling, just enjoying the moment.
OK it's getting really cold now. Is that SNOW?!
After transforming and helping other beachgoers find shelter (and leaving them with flares to try and be some source of heat) she sets out to look for the source. Fortunately there is kind of an obvious giant manta ray, and the mahou are gathering.
"Are you g-girls okay?" the red Puella Magi asks, rubbing her hands over her upper arms and starting to think maybe she needs a coat over her mahou clothes. Fire has been a problem a few times, has she really not had to deal with getting frozen much?
And then she hears the skidding of tires and looks over to see... "Catra! You have fire powers now, right? Can you help keep us warm...? While we blast the f--- out of that ice thing...?" She points up into the distance.
- Glimmer Brightmoon has posed:
Where were they? How had they not appeared yet, she was certain the mermaids would have made their appearance by now. The manta ray flew over another shop, its icy flow freezing over the doors as people around collapsed, their energy drained by dark energy, their breath a light fog from the cold.
Were Glimmer thinking more clearly... perhaps she would have been more worried. As it were? The Wings of Tenacity and Stubborness's song was flowing through the street, sending pulses of dark energy through the ice, reverberating through it. The manta ray seemed to be moving in tune with it...
Entrapped by responsibility
Lost my family
Wings wrapped in his chains
But I will not give in...
Oh, this was new. Still, the Manta ray didn't seem to notice them, yet. But the ice was only growing, the beach nearby even beginning to freeze over as it continued down its path, freezing all in its wake.
- Catra has posed:
When Catra hears Amy talking to her, her ears perk up and she moves to join the Red Puella and everyon else. "Hey," she offers by way of greating. Well, nice to see her demeanour is exactly the same from when she was a villain, now that she's a...
What is she now? Hero doesn't feel like the right word. Anti-Hero? What does that even mean? Wander? Ronin? Ronin sounds slick but she's pretty sure that's not it either.
Honsetly, those closest to her would probably say she's a pain in the ass.
Which is fine.
"Oh, uhm, sure." Catra balls one hand up into a fist and forms a ball of yellow flame, radiating heat like a particularly hot summer day all around her and, hopefully, driving back the snow.
"So, giant evil flapjack made of ice up in the sky. Great, got it. ...What do we do about it exactly?" She bites her bottom lip, and glances sideways at Amy. "Hey, can you do stuff besides grenades? Wanna give me a rocket launcher or something?" Because who doesn't like a rocket launcher?
"Plus, uhm, where's the Obsidian person leading this thing around? Unless it showed up on its own or something, but Obsidian doesn't just send monsters out on their own, they always have someone nearby holding the leash."
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Hope Blossom smiles at Coco as she approaches, while cupping her poor frigid Chara in her hands. Amy and Catra are here too, and Yukihime is an unknown to her, but she smiles at them each in turn. "Brai got a bit cold, but we're doing alright."
Catra's warmth is appreciated, especially by Brai. Hope presses the tiny fairy against her cheek and says, "Go find Kamiko and hide in her Labyrinth, okay? She's nearby."
Brai shivers while holding her arms around her tiny body, and nods emphatically at her Bearer's suggestion. Upon finding her divine sister, the tactical chara zips away from the battlefield and into the relative safety of Kamiko's own Paradise which, despite being very similar to a Witch's Labyrinth, is much preferable than Michel's idea of paradise.
"Well, ladies. I think we know what to do," she says, with her branch bow appearing in her hands. "I'm going to draw it's attention. Maybe it'll stop to focus on us. As for whoever's guiding it, I don't know, but I bet that song has something to do with it."
She chases after the manta, hopping from roof to roof, firing pink arrows up at the manta ray monster.
- Miho Inada has posed:
"Hey Amy! I didn't know you were down here!", Yukihime calls out. She's walking as if its perfectly normal around here. The ice mahou waves as her ice bow forms in her right hand. Her left hand comes up, and 2 more wolves come out. They follow along with her.
She nods to the others a bit. "Ice to meet everyone. I'm Yukihime.", she says with a slight giggle. "And no, I have nothing to do with the Manta.", she assures them. The mahou offers a small smile as looks at Catra. "I have a bunny hopping around looking, and a few snow birds watching the manta from above.", she tells.
Yukihime talks a second to look at Catra. "Umm, are you a Nekohime?", she asks. Yukihime hasn't met Catra yet...Either way, Yukihime looks up to the sky, and draws the bow with no arrows. "Blizzard of Arrows!", she calls out.
The arrow flies into the sky. While in flight, it shatters into hundreds or smaller arrows all aimed at the manta. While Yukihime doesn't move from her spot, her wolves do as she points out who they should follow. Amy would know what Yukihime is doing as the wolf follows her. Catra, Madoka, and Coco get wolves that follow them around, but not interfere.
- Coco Kiumi has posed:
"Hmm", Coco replies to Amy somewhat affirmatively. Truth is, the Live Stage does provide a barrier from environmental effects. Not enough to actually shut out the supernatural cold completely, but it was better than not having it at all.
"That's what Nikora and Hippo were trying to understand", Coco remarks to Catra when she sees the cat. "I was just in the backyard having a tan, and suddenly it's the middle of winter", she gives a glare to that manta ray thing, trying to avoid shivering too much. "There is something weird about it..."
"I am fine, let's just focus on stopping that thing", she shivers, huddling close to the center of the Live Stage as if that did anything against the cold. "Do you want you a Live Stage too?", she looks at the other mahoujin. Yuk
Glimmer's dark energy song screeches against Coco's ears, an effect of the hauntingly beautiful melody that sends fits of pain coursing through the mermaid. Trying to block her ears, she grits her teeth. It's ok, she can deal with it, it's not her first time, she urges to herself.
There are only 4 people she knows capable of singing like that, and by the before unheard song she can exclude it being anyone other than Glimmer. Looks like she really is coming into her own as one of Michel's generals, her brow furrows.
"I think it's Glimmer we are dealing with here. That song...", Coco replies to Catra with some effort. "Let's go with Hope Blossom's strategy, and let's not get frozen too", she thinks out loud, getting her E-Pitch into position.
"With the energetic beat of my Pichi Pichi Voice, the Live Starts!", Coco announces, and the Yellow Pearl shines radiantly, at the same time the Live Stage produces the song's beat and melody.
Although the stormy sea
Pushes me violently towards defeat
I look into the eyes of love
That makes me fight with the strength it gives
For every time I fall
I can get back up and thus keep
That promise I made
With a sincere voice, believing in love
It is an incandescent light
That warms more than the sun
So clear that it reveals reality
Her purifying song echoes against its opposite sung by Glimmer, bringing relief to Coco's ears, and fighting off the dark energy with the full reach of a pure heart knowing of joy and love in the face of adversity.
The wolf following her around is probably having a hard time since she is up in the air.
- Amanda Faust has posed:
Amy sighs in relief and holds out her hands, briefly dismissing her gloves and boots as warmth radiates off of Catra and soaks into the Puella Magi's extremities. "Oh yeah... was def a day to go to the beach for once..." Amy answersw Yukihime.
Wanna give me a rocket launcher or something?
Amy smiles.
"You know what, that sounds like a plan. We shoot the monster, the others look for the general, if they're not drawn out by our attacking their monster."
So it is that Catra is learning how to use a recoilless rifle. "So when a new round is loaded or conjured, you close this bit here, make sure the area behind you is clear, you're supposed to announce 'backblast clear' or the like in a military context but I often don't have time, then aim, fire, and normal you'd unload the round and put a new one in but I can just conjure a new round into it since I'm right here."
She's also conjured one for herself. They're lighter than one might have expected, maybe 15 lbs and another 6-7 for the round. "Alright, ready? Backblast clear, aim, three, two, one, fire!" and she fires at the manta-thing in sync with Catra! (And boy she hopes they hit, as THEN she remembers they don't have a barrier...)
After the first shot and demonstrating the reloading process to give Catra a feel for it, she speeds up -- just lightly slapping the launch tube with her fingers as she conjures new ammo, "Ready, fire!" and repeat!
- Glimmer Brightmoon has posed:
And there it was. Arrows. The manta ray let out a startled cry as a few hit its body. It dove down, only for more arrows and then explosions to strike it. It lets out a pained, agonized cry, crashing to the ground, hitting the snow and wailing as it lays there, like a wounded animal, making a sound as if it was hurt and aching...
Before letting out a high pitched *shriek*.
The cold around it suddenly flashed and clumps of ice seemed to almost instantly appear, before LAUNCHING at all of them, attempting to strike them the moment they lowered their guard. If they struck, they'd shatter, covering the girls in layers of dark energy ice that would, normally... have amplified the dark energy singing they heard.
Normally.
Fortunately, with Coco's song going off, instead they'd just find their movements impeded and the pain of the blow, some drain as well.
Glimmer, meanwhile... Continued her dark, twisted song.
Blind fools the lot of them
Judging me for a little mayhem
If I can't depend on the princess of power
Then I will the angel who was there in my darkest hour
You have no idea wrath I can bring...
But soon, little sparkles, you will see but one wing...
From there, the melodious tone turned dark and haunting, a humming, cold, almost cruel tune that seemed to crawl up their skin like icy tendrils to go with the icy magic surrounding them, seeming to come from all directions.
- Catra has posed:
"...I'm an Etherian, Catra answers to Yukihime's question. "And I'm a cat."
And that it seems, answers that. "Hey, Coco," she adds, and gives a single wave to the mermaid as the song starts up. And then, it's just paying attention while Amy is showing her how a recoilless rifle works. And, it's a beast of a firearm -- but Catra's strong, and she knows she's got this. It seems basically like firing a Pureheart Rifle, but without the moral conundrums, just pure ballistic destruction. Which, honestly, is perfect.
"Clear!" she declares, not sounding or feeling at all silly. ...And then she sets her feet a little further apart, just in case, as she fires. And when, just as promised, Amy goes ahead and makes another roun appear in the chamber, the feline grins and fires again.
"Alright this is fantastic," she comments amongst the sound of weapons firing. Before her next shot she focuses on the Spirit Ember, and the next round that comes flying out of the battel leaves a brilliant yellow trail of fire in the air. "Actually, I can do better."
She starts imbuing fire energy into the shells fired by both her and Amy (and Amy's will leave blue trails to her yellow ones), and is feeling immesurably proud of herself when the icey reply comes in; and even with the heat she's radiating it buffets her hard, making her grit her teeth as her skin cries out from the sudden change, and she has to stop firing.
With ice frosting her all over, she snarls, shaking her head. "Sc-screw that," she gasps through suddently chattering teeth; and again, she summons an orb of flame, to warm her and Amy (and anyone else nearby who got iced).
But it'll take a moment.
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Hope Blossom smiles as Coco's song fills the air, and there's a bit more spring to her step. Which is good, because she's going to need it in the frigid wonderland this youma is creating.
Those steps are brought to a standstill as Hope Blossom is suddenly struck with ice that covers her arm and wraps around her branch bow.
"Where is that song coming from? I can't seem to tell..." How is it coming from everywhere? Is it echoing off the walls? What's going on here? That seemed like Glimmer's voice, and it seemed like a hint regarding her motives.
"He may have been there for you," calls out Madoka, unsure if Glimmer can even hear her, "... but he's an enemy to us! I can't let him have his way, not with Seira or anyone else!"
If there's one thing that's good at getting through narrow cracks and breaking rigid things apart, it's plants, so Madoka summons more branch bows around her hand, each wrapping around and pushing against her chilly prison. Eventually one crack forms, and then another and another, until enough ice shatters to free her arm. Her legs are still frozen solid, which isn't great, but at least she can fight back.
It's not quite time for purifying magic, and Madoka burned herself out pretty hard trying to save New Moon, so for now she's firing more arrows at the downed manta, each bolt splitting into many and spreading around.
- Miho Inada has posed:
Yukihime takes a deep breath. She uses her magic to send instructions to the wolves to tank the attack. They really can't tank more then one hit, but thats enough at the moment. For those whose wolves take the hit, the wolves turn back to beads that come back to Yukihime. Her wolf takes the hit for her.
The ice mahou winces a bit as she looks at her beads. For those whose wolves took the hit, Yukihime bunkers down, and tries to call forth more wolves. "Amy, I'm low on wolves. I can't call out any more until I recharge.", she tells. She called all the other wolves out. "Setting them as barriers for other attacks!", Yukihime calls out.
Of course, this means Yukihime can't move at the moment. She takes a deep breath as the ice mahou hunkers down. "I have a lot of standing magic out at the moment. Two wolves per mahou save for me, I got one.", she tells. Meaning Yukihime is out of magic at the moment. Yup, she's counting in wolves again....
- Amanda Faust has posed:
The monster screeches! "The leviathan did not like that." Amy comments quietly, as she reloads them.
And then Catra gives fire upgrades. "Aww, yes!" Amy says excitedly after they fire. And then: "Oh shit, people are only supposed to fire like six of these a day because of the possible hearing damage... I forgot because my powers help me with it..." She conjures matching pink fuzzy earmuffs for the two of them -- Catra's made such that they'll fit over cat ears. "Sorry. It's cute magic. It gets fiddly otherwise."
And then it attacks by summoning and (telekinetifcally?) flinging ice clumps. Amy zigs when she should've zagged and dodges into one.
"Rrrgh! Cold!" In a way it's almost a relief, though -- if she feels it it wasn't a bad enough hit that her pain shut off automagically.
Yet chills crawl up her skin in tune with the song, though relief is brought by Coco's singing of getting back up and trying again.
"C-cold..." She starts trying to find ways to free herself, flares and bits of flaming powder appearing around her, then a molotov breaking at her feet and a sudden BANG as copper thermite -- very different from regular thermite! -- goes off next to her and splatters the ice with bits of briefly-molten metal. (Catra is shielded by that going off on the opposite side of Amy in case it became a problem faster than she could notice and unsummon it.)
"How is the song everywh-where? Yukihime, it-t's fine... get by me and Catra and we can all use weapons while she keeps us warm..."
- Glimmer Brightmoon has posed:
Oh, what did any of them know? They weren't in a war. They didn't grow up in it. Didn't live a life of it. Didn't have to spend every day of their lives fighting. She reached up, holding the necklace. She had agreed to give it back... But only when they had the others.
That was *more* than generous. They were just *selfish*. *Greedy*. She'd had to fight and argue and rampage for every single victory she and her people had been given. It had cost her her father, then her mother, so many friends and people. They didn't KNOW what it was like to watch people they cared about SUFFER and look to THEM for help and guidance and protection...
Sometimes a person had to make the touch choices. And then... her song stops. As she stares at the bunny that crept up on rooftop.
The mantaray, meanwhile, thrashed about... before rising up and into the air, then inhaling, its body growing larger as it prepared to unleash a blast of snow and ice on them...
Unfortunately... it hadn't realized that the girls were breaking free and warming themselves faster than expected... and ended up inhaling a LOT of Hope Blossom's arrows, hacking and coughing, sending little ice shards everywhere as it spun in a dizzying, confused flurry for a moment... disoriented...
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
"Everybody, let's go!" calls out Hope Blossom, seeing the chance to finish the monster while it coughs on her magical ammunition. With her legs still frozen (but thawing a bit), Hope is grateful that she doesn't need to worry about taking another hit... but she does want to make sure she finishes off the monster for real this time.
Her branch bow vanishes, and her hands make a heart shape over the Humpty Lock hanging from her neck.
"Negative Heart: Lock On!"
A beam of heart outlines fires from her hands, locking onto the manta ray demon.
"Open Heart!"
She thrusts her hands forward, maintaining the heart shape, and a brilliant blast of purifying rainbow energy washes over the monster.
Only after the fact does she call out, "Glimmer, where are you?"
- Miho Inada has posed:
Yukihime runs over to Catra and Amy. She looks at the two for a moment. "You two act like its...Oh right I'm already frozen...", she says. The ice mahou takes a moment to settle her wolves with everyone before she gets a ping from her DES Bunny. Her eyes go vacant a moment as she connects her magic to her senses for a moment.
Glimmer would see the snow bunny doing its cute shuffle up onto the roof. It hops around, acting like a real bunny as it hops along. It stands up, looking at Glimmer for a second. It blinks a little bit. It scratches its ear before it turns around, and BOLTS out of there!
Yukihime blinks her eyes as she comes back to her senses. "Hey! There's somebody up on that rooftop!", she yells out, pointing at Glimmer's rooftop. Yukihime takes a moment as she gathers herself. Yukihime focuses on defense at the moment, rather then attack. The others probably have more then enough magic to deal with the manta. Her job is to keep the team safe in case Glimmer attacks. For now, she's watching Glimmer's rooftop, while trying to protect Catra and Amy with her woovea while they deal with the Manta.
- Catra has posed:
And then just like that Catra is wearing ear-muffs and ordinarily, she might've reswponded super badly about that; but Amy is doing it to help, and the feline recognizes that, so... she just... hunches her shoulders and says nothing about it and wears the stupid earmuffs, but is secretly -- very secretly -- just a little bit happy about it. It's fine.
Really, it's fine.
"Let's finish killing it," she yells over the gunfire. She draws more from the Spirit Ember, and yellow flames dance over her body; and instead of motorcycle leathers, now she's wearing a charcoal black tuxedo with orange and yellow flames decorating all of the cuffs and lapels, as she splits off her two illusory doubles. As they dash forwards she fires off a shot with the Recoilless Rifle, then tosses it to one of her doubles as she dashes forwards herself; her double fires another yellow-trailing, heat charged round, and tosses it to the other double which fires, and then throws it back to the real Catra, who is already parkouring her way up a building. (And leaving claw marks in the side of it.)
Catra keeps this up, firing and tossing and climbing with her doubles keeping pace, until she reaches the roof, where she can stand and wait for Amy to load a shell. She charges it up until the rifle itself is glowing and looking like it's going to turn into slag, and finally she fires, sending what looks like a shooting star up into the Manta Ray.
And then she just dumps the rifle -- the barrel is melting now -- and rides her claws down the side of the building, all the way back to the ground.
- Amanda Faust has posed:
Once the ice has melted enough for Amy to move, she touch-reloads Catra's recoilless at the same time as she calls a huge launch tube to her own shoulder, a quarter again as wide and ten or twelve feet long -- even with the benefit of her own weapons weighing like a tenth in her hands, she grunts as she steadies it. "Oh, nice look! Can you try fire-enhancing this, too?"
She smiles as they ready and then... Catra's zipping ahead and Amy briefly stares before aiming, glancing to make sure Yukihime's not behind her, "Backblast clear!" and BANG! She fires and dismisses the massive cannon, letting the ember-enhanced round do its work before dismissing it and jumping up to the roof alongside Catra. "I got an idea. Do the honors again?" She reloads the catgirl's weapon and re-conjures the big cannon.
Plasma explosives, aka hellballs, don't work with Amy's magic alone, but whenever there's something to enhance it the right way? This time, the Ember's power makes the shells explode in big, colorful fireballs that glass the street! (oops)
"YEAH! That worked even better than I thought! Take that, ice monster!" She unsummons their weapons and jumps down after Catra!
- Coco Kiumi has posed:
A deep chill overtakes Coco, one that is caused by more than just the cold, more than the oppressive feeling of Glimmer's song, an extension of that distressed shriek the creature has done when it collapsed to the ground in pain. Youmas aren't supposed to do that.
Her song stops for a second at that realisation, that this is a creature that has been corrupted by the darkness. A stern look appears on her face then, and she shouldn't have been surprised at something like this, with Michel's 'one of us, or against us' mentality.
She still doesn't know why she has that weird feeling about her, but she knows what she must do now, that her efforts are best focused on the purification that has always been her trademark. "It's ok, this is about to end soon", she tells the creature, floating closer. She is not sure if it understands them, but hopefully it can read the intent in her voice.
The Yellow Mermaid Princess raises her right arm and calls out within herself Aqua Regina's blessing, the bracelet on her wrist shining with white radiance as a halo of yellow light moves downwards from the mermaid princess's head and her clothes change again.
Her left glove now adheres to her arm with a pattern made up of water ripples, while on her left leg a stocking has shown up with the same water ripple pattern, and on her right hand and on her legs a yellow glove and boots with flowy extensions show up.
Bathed in the Live Stage's white glow, rhythmic pulses of light that give a warm embrace to the pain, soothe all the fatigue and push away the darkness.
"With a Pichi Pichi Voice, a Live Finale For You", the mermaid princess smiles gently.
A feeling deeper than love
Was born in the seven seas
No matter how great
That final wish may be
I will never give up
A tiny star letting out its first cry
Caught my eye as it came to life
The darkest hour is just before dawn...
You know that, don't you?
If I send stardust
Into the seven seas
It will become a guiding light
Illuminating the path
Of a distant journey
At the apex of the song, purifying hearts fly out like a starry blessing. "Fine Heart Pitch!", she claps her hands, smiling at the manta ray.
- Glimmer Brightmoon has posed:
As the attacks rain down on the manta ray, it freezes in place and parts are torn off... The open heart strikes it, purifying rainbow washes over it, making it glimmer and sparkle, and then missiles strike the manta ray, blowing off chunks of it.
Except, when they are blown off, there's no fleshy bits or anything... They disolve... into snow and ice?
And more and more of the creature is torn away, and as the open heart and purifying song wash over it, the dark energy is cleansed, the core is revealed... within... a small, twin tailed pink fairy, a little smaller than a barbie doll, was inside it. Piloting the ice-manta ray like it was some kind of ice-mecha. Once again likely making Madoka happy that most of her charas weren't here to see this, lest they get... ideas...
A small, orange feather, one of Seira's soul fragments, would drift away, to Yellow Pearl Voice, as the fairy blinked a few times... before eeking. "O-oh. I-I'm so sorry for causing s-so much trouble! I-I don't know what came over me, your highness! I-I... I'll go home right away, oh dear, I-I am in so much trouble, eek!" she said, before turning and just... pop. Gone.
Already, the ice was melting and people were waking up, the weird 'snow storm' that hid already almost entirely faded, with just a few puddles remaining to show for it...
Glimmer, meanwhile... walked to the edge of the roof, looking down at them, her eyes narrowed... before scoffing. Bah. They didn't understand anything.
She appeared back in Obsidian Tower, soon... And... "Hey, Fuku?" she said, nudging the bird, once again in her normal pink outfit and a small smile on her lips. "They were out of the big ones, but here. This might help, and it's more your size than mine," she said, before handing over one of those small electric hand-fans that you could squeeze and would then pritz you with a little cooling mist. It wasn't much, but well... heat waves sucked.
And a few minutes later... A vial of energy appeared on Riventon's desk with a note. 'If you keep pretending I'm not a part of your department every time I talk to you, I'm not bringing you any more energy, Jerkton.'
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Hope Blossom knows that Glimmer is around somewhere, but she's not showing herself. Instead of finding her, she gets distracted by the appearance of a small pink fairy creature?
It honestly reminds her of her Chara for a bit. It's probably a good thing most of the minidokas decided to hide away from the cold, though nothing really stops Lydian from telling the others about it after they dehenshin.
However, seeing the orange feather brings a smile to Madoka's face. "Coco-chan! Look!" she points out. "That's a piece of Seira, right?"
It's only after the fact that she remembers to look for Glimmer, and by then the dark princess is long gone.
- Miho Inada has posed:
Yukihime looks around, and checks for other traces of dark energy. Once she's sure its safe, Yukihime calls back all the snow animals. The bunnies and birds come back, getting close to Yukihime before melting away. The wolves turn back into beads, which return to Yukihime's wrist to make the prayer beads. The mahou sighs out a blue fog before Miho walks out in her bikini and cargo shorts set.
Miho stretches a little bit as she looks around. "Umm sorry I wasn't much help.", Miho says with a formal bow. She looks at the beach a bit. The woman frowns a bit as she can hear the best parts of a song play out, and all the boys having left cause of the cold...
"Why do they always attack at the best parts of songs?! And all the cute boys have left for the night! Dammit!", Miho says. "Next time I see the girl on the rooftop...", Miho starts. "I'm gonna go after her with all 10 wolves!!! No escape! Second time a youma interupts my beach/cute boy watching time!", she pouts...
- Catra has posed:
Catra lands on the street after a controlled plummet down the side of the building -- no big deal, cats always land on their feet. The feline just turns to walk it off -- or she would, if there weren't plasma fireballs going off that were... basically turning the street into... a radioactie hellscape, of sorts?
"...I didn't do it," she declares, just in case anyone is asking. Juuuuust in case.
Apparently gotta at least try to be good now.
It's hard.
Catra leans against the wall nearest her that hasn't been glassed, and tosses a small, brightly glowing rock up and down in the air, catching it and tossing it, over and over.
"So, uhh," she muses, "Did anyone manage to find who was in charge of that flying flapjack? 'Cause I sorta thought we'd have to fight them too, but then we didn't, and that just seems super weird. Not something I usually considered, y'know, running away from the heroes."
- Amanda Faust has posed:
I didn't do it.
"No, that's my fault." Amy clarifies. "I designed those charges to be more... firey. Like the hellball grenades? They don't work in real life without help."
The manta... was an ice golem... being piloted by a fairy? Who had a piece of Seira? "Whaaaa?" Amy blinks. "I don't... I don't get it, so... that was one of Michel's attacks? Then who was singing?" She looks around, and takes off her earmuffs and listens, but... the singer other than Coco is gone.
She turns to Catra and Yukihime, shrugging re: finding the dark general. "Thanks for the attack and defense enhancements, it really helped." Well, she got hit before the wolves reached her, but like, they didn't know the fight wasn't going to go longer! The defense might've been really important! "Well, it was better to be prepared... and a lot more efficient than just using my magic."
She pets one of the wolves before it re-beads, then glances down at her arm. The soul gem now a quarter-corrupted -- not all that much worse than it's been since the wedding. She didn't want to hunt Witches in the heat! >_<
Amy blinks at Yukihime as she goes on about boys and her anger at the girl on the rooftop. "Huh? Oh, the beach... At least there's an internet full of cute boys at home?" She's... slightly at a loss in this conversation, but does want to support her friend. "Or are you like... looking for one to ask out?"
- Coco Kiumi has posed:
The performance comes to an end and the giant form fades away to restore the true form of Glimmer's fairy. Meanwhile, Seira's heart fragment falls quietly towards the Orange Pearl, attracted to it like it knew It was returning home, and the pearl glows briefly, accepting it back.
"One of our ice fairies...", Coco mutters, observing the panicking girl with raised eyebrows. So that's why it was feeling so familiar. It made sense, but... "I can't believe her, that she can think that would be ok!", Coco grumbles.
"You were worried for her, right?", Seira glows and reappears as if on cue. "Well, yes, it's not like Glimmer, and it's trouble if one loses her way all the way out here, even before considering why", she explains. "I see, I understand now, this is a form of love too", Seira intertwines her hands proudly.
Coco smirks. "Glad you have another fragment with you, Seira", she cheers, and reunites with the group, and to Madoka she says. "Yes, we are closer to getting her back! I just wouldn't have expected it almost brought winter on us", she smiles to her friend. "We are one step closer to getting Seira back! And we can go back to enjoy our summer now."
"Well, if it's cute boys you are after, I am sure you can find a good deal of them at the beach behind the Pearl Pier, Yukihime. I am sure we can find you a date, easily", Coco winks to the ice maiden.
She is almost tempted to shake her head at Catra's denial of heroism, but she focuses on her confusion and Amy's confusion instead. "You mean who corrupted her? It was Glimmer." Was it the Arctic cold? "Thanks to everyone for helping. Do you want some warm, or fresh?", she offers with a small laugh.
