Tragedy struck on February 6th, at a public meeting hosted in Juuban Public Library by Representative Koyomi Tomioka. According to Tomioka-san's office, the meeting was a planned event for constituents to discuss current events and issues with Representative Tomioka, and learn more about the Social Democratic Party's plans for how they will benefit the people of Japan in the National Diet Member. Tomioka-san was joined by several other figures, including Ken Okana, executive with Astellas Pharma Inc.
Just before the meeting could get underway, an out-of-forecast blizzard struck the Juuban area, with snow and ice shutting down roads in downtown Juuban and the surrounding area. Witnesses say that initially, Representative Tomioka and Executive Okana were able to keep those gathered calm, but the situation turned quickly when a politicl dissident used explosives to burst down the doors of the library, exposing all of those within to a hail of ice and rain.
A group of mysterious masked citizens are credited with stopping the attack, but not before Executive Okana was tragically killed in this act of senseless violence. Witnesses say the perpetrator was also killed, by her own explosives, which severely damaged the library's walls and windows, though thankfully, there were few other injuries.
Executive Okana's family has asked for privacy in this devastating time. Representive Tomioka's office has vowed to restore the library to even better condition, and to name the new wing in Executive Okana's honor. Local police will be investigating the identity of the terrorist, whose body mysteriously disappeared from the scene.
There are those who wonder if this attack could have anything to do with a recent attack on a group of students walking home in Juuban. One of the boys injured in that attack was left in critical condition, with a long recovery ahead. No culprit was apprehended at the time. Still others wonder if this has something to do with an attack on Juuban's main streets in Early December. At the time, many witnesses claimed aliens were the culprits, though that could clearly not be the case. Still, as with the current tragedy, and the attack on the young students, no culprit was apprehended.
