Koji Silvia's Sheet

Background

Kojiro Silvia's parents are Saburo (aka Ricardo) Silvia, a Brazilian-American expatriate, and Shia Silvia, a seemingly normal Japanese woman and office worker. His father was a little too japan-obsessed as a young man and decided to just pick up and move his entire life to Tokyo, wanting to live the 'protagonist' life. It did not go well for him, but despite his repeated and ongoing setbacks, he maintains a proud and positive attitude, always trying again. His 'current' job varies, but because of this he's a remarkably skilled generalist. Shia Silvia is the anchor of her husband's life. Calm, collected, stable, always diligent... and hiding a former dual identity. Before marriage, she was an intelligence operative of the Time-Space Administrative Bureau who was stranded on Earth post-mission, and was ordered to deactivate her Intelligent Device and blend into the native populace until further notice. However, being independently minded and determined, for six years she was Kunoichi Pink, a magical girl who became a thorn in the side of some of the forces that eventually became Obsidian.

Life changed for his parents when Kojiro, aka 'Koji' was born. Dad started working harder and hitting the beer harder, mom tried to put aside her hero life to try and be a normal parent for her son, but neither of them could keep things going the way they were, and both fell back into their old and bad habits. This left a boy at the age of six doing things like packing a lunch for dad, setting up the rice for the day for dinner, putting grocery lists in his mother's purse before she went to work... not even thinking it was abnormal for a kid his age to be doing this.

Gymnastics was actually his father's idea, despite it being more of a sport for girls. He wanted to make sure his son was 'strong and agile, like a tiger' and was always ditching on work for tournaments and meets for his son. Things his mother unfortunately would miss more often than not, but Saburo would always talk it off as 'She's busy makin' the yen for both of us!'. For Koji, the parallel bars, the mat, and the hobbyhorse were places where he could just get away from being his parents' keepers and let himself think. He could do math to try and make his routines better. He could practice his Japanese and English. He could even occasionally hum one of those stupid anime songs from the old stuff his dad is ALWAYS WATCHING... but it was his place to go. By the time he was into middle school though, he would practice but he would not compete, instead offering to help with training for his kohai.

Life for a middle-school Koji was one of academic middle-road and seeming mediocrity. He had already decided to get into a vocational school instead of trying for colleges since they are so competitive, and he had grown to enjoy poking around computers and smart devices, learning how it all worked. So in many cases, he held himself back, never getting higher than 4th place in many subjects (because who ever remembers the person who came in 4th?!), doing support things and volunteering for things that never put him in the limelight. It just became habit for him to be 'there'. He was a diligent student, he was obviously gifted in many ways, but he just seemed content to not bring attention to himself. Something he accidentally learned from his mother.

This all changed during the summer after he finished Year 8 as the 5th highest academic grade in his class. Just as the summer break was starting, his parents got a letter from Radiant Heart Academy. His father was excited and his mother was strangely neutral about it. But 3 days later she seemed to be accepting. Whatever happened during this time, she has never said, and may never be known. So at the start of year 9, Koji was given a new rail card, pristine RHC uniform and official gym clothes, and was shipped off to the new school with a promise that he could come home on the weekends. Perhaps the strangest thing out of it all was that most of his room was packed after he left, but was in his new dorm before he got there.

This leads to the present day. 6 months after starting Year 9, he was back home doing what he does for his family when it happened. His mother Shia saw something on the news and rushed out so quickly that she hadn't realized she'd left her 'limited edition' and much-loved smartphone on the counter. Picking it up to go catch up with her before she got to the train, Koji was caught in the middle of a youma incident and seemingly unable to defend himself. He almost got to his mother, who was evacuating people down into the underground metro, and the thing landed between them. Instantly reacting to the threat, the smartphone suddenly sprouted a gemstone glowing blue at the bottom and said 'Activate me, Young Master. Say... Hanzo.' Reacting like any rational person, he replied, 'Hanzo?' giving the Intelligent Device permission to activate his mother's version of the Barrier Jacket to protect him. The move saved his life, but also changed his world, as his mother had to not only tell him the truth of who she used to be, and what he saw. Over several weekends during the last part of the 9th grade, Shia tried to impart a crash-course on being a Device Mage to her son, until all she could do was let him fly (figuratively) on his own...

Personality

Koji is courteous, studious, and generally a well-meaning but put-upon young man. He attempts to maintain a civil air most times, but there are places where a sense of exasperation can be seen. He is not timid in the traditional sense, instead spends most of his time trying to politely deflect away from being in the spotlight. This can represent itself in him being often times apologetic, willing to do errands & chores, and otherwise finding ways to exit scenarios that try and drag him into their purvue.

As someone who has cared for his parents, he actually enjoys doing things like neatening up and getting everything in their proper place, as well as cooking basic meals and prepping foods for others. He can seem obsessive about it at times, but it comes from a place where he just wants to keep things running smooth for other people.

Koji has friends, and hobbies. No, really. He likes board games and computer games, and has a hidden competitive streak that the anonymity of the internet brings out. His childhood buddies have all moved on to their high schools and he almost never sees them, but he talks to them online. Some of the people he competed with and trained with in the Gymnastics Club remember him well as being that 'diligent guy', but sometimes struggle to come up with specifics. Currently, most of the people he can talk to are those who build and mod computers and smart devices, as he is trying to learn as much of the technical side of things as he can.

He also has a strange affinity for stray animals. Cats are a favorite, but he's helped out dogs and even rats in trouble at times. Making sure there is food and water when they can be afforded, helping catch them to get them to a vet when they're sick, and even getting his parents to hire a pet detective when a particularly friendly neighborhood cat his father liked to call 'Susumu' went missing. Part of that comes from a sense of kinship with them, beings that are there but often times not seen by others. He one day hopes to be able to get a cat of his own.

The thing that Koji does not realize is that his life has been training him for a purpose that was apt to reveal itself one day. His strange set of skills, combined with his intelligence and subtle cunning make him someone who will fight smart and not hard when it all starts, and be a natural in following in his mother's footsteps. He will watch and assess so he can fill in the gaps rather than barge in and cause more problems. A quintessential team player, but one who can function well on his own without it. One might almost call it focused ferocity or 'keeping cool'. He is someone who doesn't panic in a crisis, which means when that inevitable tipping point comes, it could be almost as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. But he is also someone that once they learn his true nature also know he is reliable and able to follow through.

Because he knew what he wanted by the time he started Middle School, and figured out how to get it the best way possible, he seemed very content to be on the upper end of the middle of the road. Never the best, but never in the bottom half. Never standing out, but always maintaining where he would never be in trouble or cause trouble. The move to Radiant Heart is a bit of a derailing moment in his life, and the upheaval is actually good for him. This is not a place where he can coast in the shadows of others, and will learn how to live with some daylight shining on him, and will actually push his intelligence to better places than just 'being in the middle'.

Focus

'Shin Hanzo' or just 'Hanzo' is the name of Intelligent Device Model H-44270-A, a reconnaissance and intelligence specialized unit formerly in service to Shia Skyline (Now Shia Silvia). It's uses a masculine voice and mature speech pattern when speaking to it's users, calling them 'Master' or 'Mistress' depending on gender, and adding additional titles based on age or achievement. Knowledgeable of the modern world, Hanzo understands to it's own seeming regret the modern mythos of the Ninja and how much it's own design and function seem to have played to it, hinting that it's service on this world may predate it's current wielders.

When activated by bringing the Standby Mode Device and saying 'Hanzo. Set Up.' Or just 'Set Up.', Hanzo places a Barrier Jacket on Koji, storing his regular clothes away in a dimensional storage space inherent to all Devices.

Style

As a Device User and Mage, Koji fights using a combination of physical skills trained by his mother and as a gymnast in combination with magic that is cast and channeled via Shin Hanzo, his Intelligent Device. The color of Hanzo's magic is an ice blue with teal-blue interior.

When activated by bringing the watch up and speaking the Device's name into the Core, Hanzo places a Barrier Jacket on Koji, storing his regular clothes away in a dimensional space.

Powers

Intelligent Device H-44270 'Shin Hanzo' - A Mid-Fielder Device in the shape of a pair of thick fingerless gloves with a teal-blue gem in the back of each hand and some electronics and vent-plugs along the outer wrist.

Standard Magics - The standard-use Midchildan attack and defensive magics that take the shape of Kunai blades and hexes instead of bullets and spherical shields. Basic Healing magic is available, as well as a Speed Enhancement for movement. Sealing, Telepathy, Storage, Binding, and Scanning magics are all available. Hanzo lacks the ability to generate a Time-Space Barrier, and does not have Flier Fin, but can use Shields for levitation and a kinetic booster for leaps.

Decline-Type Magics aka 'Disruptor' - Hanzo was originally designed for stealth warfare and infiltration, and has a suite of debuffing and dispelling magics that can degrade/destroy barriers, counter enhancements, reduce the accuracy of attacks, and jam scanning and communications. Decline-Magics can be mixed with melee and ranged magic for 'Disruptor' strikes that can do things like paralyze, stun, blind, slow movement, or make casting less efficient.

Illusion Magics aka 'Phantom' - To support the User in their duties, Hanzo contains magics to conceal the user in an optic camoflague with sound muffling, and can project images and sounds to create duplicates of the user or others, or objects, and can also use a Field Effect to create illusory terrain to conceal with. The longer or the more times a person or effect can be observed, the more detailed that the user and Hanzo can make it. It can also simulate attacks.

Energy Blade Magics aka 'Geistmesser -or- Ghost Blade' - An Energy-Blade spell used for melee combat, some ranged combat, and transportation. The weapons will appear as blue fading inwards nearly black with a light blue core. Since they are solid energy, they can be used to parry physical attacks, be thrown/projected, and can have their attributes/shape changed on the fly.

Transport Magic aka 'Flash Step' - A Support Spell that gives a brief but dramatic boost to the caster's Speed, designed for evasion, which moves them quickly enough that they seem to vanish and reappear in another spot. This spell is primary short range, but can be used in any direction.
