As Geode Girl Loyalty, Niji has a lot of 'bog-standard magical girl' powers. She's a little bit more durable, a little bit stronger, her clothes take only minor cosmetic damage. But the main thing GG Loyalty has? Speed and flight. Those blue wings on her back aren't just for show, and she doesn't just fly in the air. When she runs, she leaves a rainbow colored aftertrail for about a second, and the aftertrail actually hurts dark energy users.

Niji Dasshu's Sheet

Background

Niji Dasshu hails from Aomori (both the city and prefecture), the northernmost part of the major island of Japan. She grew up with a loving father and mother who were supportive - maybe even a little too supportive - of all of her acts. If she wanted to play baseball, they would buy her all of the gear and be at every game. Soccer? Sure. Not doing well in school? No problem, they'd focus on her achievements in sports. It was... both endearing and a little suffocating. And Niji really did like sports - she liked competition. Challenge. Physical activity. And generally being awesome. And while she might not have been the best baseball player on the baseball team, or the best martial artist in the dojo, or the best volleyball player on the volleyball team, she was the best volleyball player on the baseball team, the best kendo practitioner on the vollyeball team, and the best baseball player in the kendo dojo. Niji never could pick just one thing, and stick with it. But she was happy, she enjoyed it. Even if she always felt like she was looking for her thing. Like there was something only she could do, something she'd be the best at, something the world needed her for. And in the meantime... she made friends. She really enjoyed team sports, because on a team, she could compete for more than just herself. She could show others how to do well. She could have backup and be backup. There was something in being the one to make a save for your team, score that game winning point, or just be there in defeat that made her heart sing. Whether on or off the field, she never got hostile to her teammates - even if they frustrated her a little bit, they were her teammates, and that meant something vital to her.

Niji didn't know it, but she found it one day, hiking in the woods around Aomori. Just running through the woods, enjoying life, laughing to nobody but herself. What she found was there, just... dangling from a high tree branch. She saw it, glittering in the light. She didn't know what it was... but it was up there, out of reach, in a challenging place. Like it was taunting her. Like it was a reward for someone who could get it. So of course, Niji did what she always did in reaction to challenges - she climbed up. She fell. She climbed again. She eventually made it up there and grabbed the little object. It was a shimmering gem, a geode, cut in half, on a necklace... the outer layers shone with the colors of the rainbow, and inside it was a beautiful blue. And if the light caught it just right, it looked like there was an image of a... claw? Maybe? Or a lightning bolt coming out of a cloud? Well, it was her reward, her trophy for the climb, for the challenge seen and met, so she grabbed it and put it around her neck. She liked it. It felt... awesome, in a way. Like her.

A week after she put the necklace on, Niji's family recieved a letter from a prestigious school in Tokyo itself, Radiant Heart Academy. Of course, it wasn't for Niji's... somewhat lacking academics... but she was invited to come and stay at the dorms, get a world class education, and equally... Radiant Heart Academy had teams for nearly every sport one could think of, and being in Tokyo, had a lot of competition in all of those sports. Plus, as a bonus, she'd be very far away from her parents, which meant that she'd get some time away from them. Not that she didn't love them, but just that they could be a little... much. So even though her parents were hesitant about it, Niji eventually won them over, and rode the train down to Tokyo to join Radiant Heart Academy. It wasn't too long after being there that she saw all of the other students with their special uniforms and hair and decided she couldn't not be noticed, too... and she looked at her geode. Drawing inspiration from the rainbow of colors on the outside rings of her geode, and her namesake, she dyed her hair not one color, but a set of them. Stripes of red, orange, yellow, purple, blue, and green. Even in a place like Radiant Heart Academy, Niji was going to stand out. And it was probably the only place in all of Japan she could get away with hair like this as a student... now she's looking to make new teammates, new friends... and little does she know but there's a whole new reason for her to compete coming soon.

Personality

There are two important words which sum up Niji, two primary things. Competition and Loyalty. Niji likes to compete. She literally plays every sport she can get her hands on, and while she might not be the absolute best at any of them, she's absolutely one of the best at all of them, which is pretty crazy. Going somewhere? Niji will race you there. Playing a game? Niji will try to beat your score. It's not even about winning or losing, it's just about the act of pushing herself, and the fun of it. She's not malicious whether she wins or loses, and she won't cheat. While she likes winning, winning isn't as important as the mere act of competition. She'd rather lose than not compete at all. That's not to say she enjoys losing. Sometimes she can even get a little bitter, especially if she feels like she should have won. But her usual response to that is 'let's go again' and it's only turning down the rematch that'll really make her salty.

The other word, Loyalty, is how she interacts with her teammates and her friends. Once Niji is your friend, you have to work pretty hard to intentionally change that status, much less have anything come between you. If she had to, she'd even throw a match/competition to protect a friend (if she had to, and she'd haaaate it, but she'd do it). She's gotten herself hurt trying to protect others, gotten into fights on their behalf, gotten into trouble covering for them. Part of the reason she never fully reaches the top is that she spends so much of her time helping her teammates - part of the loyalty aspect of her character causes her to put the effort in for others, too - and combine that with her ADHD on every kind of competitive sport, and she's never going to put the time in to be the singular best herself, but every team she's on benefits from her presence. (Girl could stand to focus a little more, though.)

The downside to Niji's personality is that she's a bit of an attention hog, a spotlight chaser, she likes when people talk about her. She likes when people know her. She looked at the girls in Radiant Heart Academy and decided she'd have the wildest hair of them all which is no small feat in a world of girls with blue, pink, and odango hair. She loves seeing newspaper articles about her. She loves the way teams react seeing on the field. She'd rather be infamous than unknown (but would prefer, of course, to be famous.) Sometimes this gets out of control and challenges her Loyalty, but in the end, the Loyalty aspect of her personality always wins (or she'd be an antagonist).

Focus

Niji's magical focus is the Geode of Loyalty, which appropriately enough, allows her to transform into Geode Girl Loyalty. Even though she doesn't know that yet! (I intend to run some sort of a scene, after she makes a friend, where her friend is threatened or the bonds are tested, and fighting against that gives her the henshin, magical girl style!)

A secondary focus of all Geode Girls, though, is friendship. While all magical girls are stronger in the presence of Friendship, Niji's pretty much doomed to be unable to fight effectively without someone nearby to fight for, or fight alongside. All of her powers function at a vastly reduced rate without that - but the good news is, it's not hard to find a friend, especially when said friend is equally focused on kicking evil's sorry dark-energy infused butt.

Style

When Niji's geode activates, she is granted a connection to another world, to a version of herself that exists in that world. What that version is, nobody may ever know, but it's certainly quite different than Niji physically! And when you mix some of those traits with Niji's personality, then you have Geode Girl Loyalty! For one thing, her skin turns blue! She grows a second set of ears on top of her head. She gets a rainbow tail that matches her hair! And she gets a cool outfit. But she also gets a set of blue feathery wings.

Powers

As Geode Girl Loyalty, Niji has a lot of 'bog-standard magical girl' powers. She's a little bit more durable, a little bit stronger, her clothes take only minor cosmetic damage. But the main thing GG Loyalty has? Speed and flight. Those blue wings on her back aren't just for show, and she doesn't just fly in the air. When she runs, she leaves a rainbow colored aftertrail for about a second, and the aftertrail actually hurts dark energy users.

Summon (probably) baseball bat: Working with Hinoiri and utilizing her geode's connection to the plane of Kirakirafantastica, she can summon her bat to her hand. Well, usually. Sometimes she summons other sports equipment on accident and has to figure out how to get value out of it. The good news is whatever she summons counts-as-magic for the duration of the fight (meaning it can injure youma). Maybe someday she'll be able to summon things other than her bad on purpose, or in emotionally charged moments, but right now, it's not really controlled.

Sonic Rainboom: Her super-serious/rare finisher: Like her KKF counterpart, after achieving enough speed she can break through something akin to a magical version of a sound barrier - causing a sudden detonation of purifying energy with an explosive wake that sparkles in all the colors of the rainbow.

Loyalty Homerun Smasher: Her usual finisher: with her baseballbat in hand Loyalty can create a sphere of concentrated purifying energy, tossing it up before hitting it with her bat and causing it to grow into a roughly bus-sized orb of rainbow purifying energy for cleansing youma and getting Dark Generals to regret being on the field.

If she puts a lot of energy into it, she can run so fast she creates a sudden localized burst of energy - sort of like a sonic boom, but also mixed with a multicolored lightshow. Usually the causes her to have to catch her breath shortly after, but it also is super unhealthy for dark energy users (and frankly, anybody too close to the regular pummeling damage in the area of effect).

As a later power evolution she may be able to have the 'rainbow afterimage' effect of her running stay around longer at some points, creating barriers and walls. Lastly, in conjunction with a friend or ally, she can grasp her geode and call upon the powers of the fairy world it's linked to, creating a surge of bright blue energy (which she is tentatively going to call the Awesome Geode Surge, but she's still workshopping the name. She just has to yell -something- with conviction. Specific yelling may depend on who her friend/ally is at the time. Sailor Mars may get the Awesome Flaming Lightsurge! for example).
